Taking a PhD in Music Composition

I have now been accepted onto a PhD course in music composition at the University of Liverpool. From October, I will be focusing on composing mixed music (music combining acoustic instruments with electronic backing tracks). This should assist my continued progress towards a professional freelance career in composing and music production. My proposal title was “Timbre Modulations as Primary Functional Parameters in Mixed Music”. This proposed research will involve continued experimentation with hybridised genre combinations merging sounds and characteristics of electronic music with concert music and compositional techniques. I have also now completed my composition MRes based on large scale structural sound contrasts.

Update: Funding successful. My PhD is now fully scholarship funded! (John Lennon Memorial Scholarship)
